Today's Ever-Growing Concern
With today's ever-growing concern regarding the inadequate preparation of a number of youth as they venture into the workforce or face the working world, LIP works to ensure that its participants are fully prepared to succeed. This preparation, framed as an internship opportunity in which youth will develop landscaping skills, serves the purpose of strengthening and beautifying the community, building positive self-worth and self-esteem among youth, teaches commitment and dedication to service, and allows youth to obtain certifications in the landscaping industry that they could use to catapult them into their eventual lifetime careers. Internships Offer Youth Valuable Opportunities
It is an accepted conclusion that participation in internships offer youth valuable work experience, provides an opportunity for them to explore potential future careers, increases their confidence and workforce preparedness, equips them with the tools and skill necessary to balance life and intern responsibilities and ultimately facilitates the path which promotes a sense of positive well-being and community collaboration.
Research has shown that landscaping, gardening and horticulture have been effective in producing positive behavior change among at-risk youth, serves as an alternative outlet for environmental stress and anxiety and allows youth to take pride in giving back to the communities in which they reside.
